It has come to our attention that a number of our customers have recently been targeted by fraudulent phone calls posing as official representatives from Google. These callers typically request a six-digit Google verification code, claiming it is necessary to verify your Google Business Listing. Please be advised—this is a scam.
Once scammers obtain your verification code, they can gain unauthorized access to your Google Business profile, effectively locking you out and assuming control. In many reported cases, victims were subsequently charged monthly fees for fraudulent “services” that were never authorized.
What You Need to Know:
- Google does not make unsolicited phone calls requesting verification codes.
- Neither Google nor iGlobalWeb charges any monthly fee for managing or verifying Google Business Listings.
- iGlobalWeb provides legitimate listing and SEO services, and if you’re a customer of ours, your website is already properly submitted to all major search engines.
Common Scam Tactics to Watch For:
Scammers may use a variety of manipulative techniques to deceive you, including:
- Claiming your Google Business Listing is about to be removed or deactivated if you don’t act immediately.
- Stating they are representatives of Google, Bing, Yahoo, or other tech companies.
- Promising to place your website in the #1 position on Google search results.
- Offering dubious SEO services or claiming to be a “certified SEO agency”.
- Attempting to collect sensitive personal or financial information, such as credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, or birthdates.
These calls may sound urgent and convincing, but they are designed to trick you into giving up control of your business profile and/or money.
What Should You Do?
- Do not share any verification codes or sensitive information over the phone.
- Do not engage with or return calls from individuals claiming to be from Google or other search engine companies unless you initiated the contact through official channels.
- If you receive such a call, hang up immediately and report the incident to us at iGlobalWeb.
- You can also report suspicious activity directly to Google Business Profile support through their official website.
